Sustainable Practice in Traditional Crafting: Carving Greenwood Spoons

Sustainable Practice in Traditional Crafting: Carving Greenwood Spoons

April 12th, 2026 | 8:30 am - 12:30 pm | Beaver Creek Reserve | Location: Fall Creek, Wisconsin

In honor of Earth Month, we will be exploring the intersection of sustainable forestry and art through craft. We will begin our time together by heading out into our maple stand to learn about the important role our forests play in carbon sequestration, and the ability to extend the life of this sequestered carbon in durable wooden goods.
Then, following the principles of the traditional handcrafting method of Sloyd, we will sustainably harvest silver maple wood to form the blank of our spoons. Intended for first time carvers and beginners, this course will introduce basic wood carving techniques!
