Beaver Creek Reserve raised over 1,000 Monarchs in 2019, and in 2020, we started our at-home monarch raising program where volunteers and their families raised and released Monarchs in our Butterfly House throughout the summer. Besides Monarchs, the Butterfly House is also home to more than 30 Wisconsin native butterfly species! On average, anywhere from 40-140 people visit the house each day, and since 2016, the Butterfly House has had 20,000 to 25,000 visitors. Volunteers are very important to the butterfly program here at Beaver Creek! From maintaining the gardens and guiding visitors around the house, to raising butterflies in our lab, there is over 500 hours of volunteer work that goes into the Butterfly House each year.
